A new report from the Chronicle of Higher Education reveals that between 2011-2012, the average compensation package for a public research university president rose by $441,392 — up 4.7 percent from last year.
Among the top earners:
- Penn State, Graham Spanier*: $2,906,721 (most of which was severance pay; Spanier was fired following the Jerry Sandusky child-sex abuse scandal)
- Auburn University, Jay Gogue: $2,542,865
- University of California, Mark Yudof: $847,149
